Study on the aging of three typical rubber materials under high- and low-temperature cyclic environment

Abstract As the key components of sealing applications, rubber seals are subject to complicated environmental conditions during service lifetime. In this study, aging three typical materials, ethylene–propylene–diene monomer rubber, liquid silicone and fluorine was tested under different high- low-temperature cycle environments. The experimental results confirm that reciprocating temperature causes a type fatigue failure, which could result in an increase compression set. addition, novel accelerated test method proposed based on dominant damage mechanism material caused by treatments. Based method, long-term samples can be predicted. This significantly shorten time reduce cost.
